Success in your first year in college starts during the summer. I totally understand that you want to enjoy the summer between high school and college, but try to find some time to enjoy the suggested summer reading. Many colleges and universities have such readings, and my school, Lafayette College, is no exception.
Our summer reading this year at Lafayette is Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates.
Whatever book has been assigned at your school, you should check it out this summer. Most of the time these books are “suggested” rather than “required,” but you make some time to read the “suggested” book before school starts so you can hit the ground running.
Sometimes these books are discussed in first year seminar courses and sometimes they are discussed in other classes. No matter what, its nice to be prepared before schools starts. Others will be impressed with you, you’ll feel good about yourself, and you might even enjoy the book!
Let me know what the summer reading is at your school. Have fun!
